Project Onyx – Partner Brief
A comprehensive and scalable in-theatre accessibility system for major exhibitors and hardware innovators.
What Is Project Onyx?
Project Onyx is an accessibility initiative designed to modernize how assistive technologies are deployed in cinemas. It consists of three components: Oxbit, a customizable audio filter for sensory-sensitive guests; Melodica, an AR-based closed captioning system; and the Onyx Server + Dock infrastructure that handles automation, charging, diagnostics, and syncing.
Why This Matters
Existing solutions like CaptiView and assisted listening devices are often clunky, unreliable, or underused. Onyx is built with the goal of creating a user-friendly, scalable, and low-maintenance experience that increases both accessibility and operational efficiency.
What We're Looking For
- Exhibitor Partners to pilot the system (AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Alamo, etc.)
- Hardware Collaborators to support the AR components (Viture, Rokid, Vuzix)
- Technical Advisors or Manufacturers for docking, networking, and in-theatre logistics
Production Targets
- Oxbit – ~$250 USD target price/unit
- Melodica – ~$500 USD target price/unit (AR glasses budget: ~$400)
- Onyx Server – ~$750 USD per location
- Docking Stations – ~$150 per 10-device dock
What's Next?
We are finishing the concepting stage and preparing to enter prototyping. A pilot program will follow in select markets. We are currently seeking strategic collaborators to help bring this system to life.
